Description

A delicious casserole that captures the flavors of pizza using layers of tender zucchini, savory ground meat, rich marinara sauce, and melted cheese.


Ingredients

  • 3 medium zucchini, thinly sliced
  • 1 pound ground meat (beef, turkey, or chicken)
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for sautéing

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground meat, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper, breaking the meat apart. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure even cooking. Drain excess fat.
  3. Layer half of the zucchini slices in a 9×13 inch baking dish, creating a beautiful base.
  4. Spread half of the meat mixture evenly across the zucchini.
  5. Pour half of the marinara sauce over this layer.
  6. Repeat the layering with the remaining zucchini, meat, and marinara sauce.
  7. Top generously with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  8. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden-brown.
  10. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Make-ahead tips: Assemble a day in advance and refrigerate. For a crispy top, consider using an air fryer for smaller batches.
