- 1 large onion
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- Oil for frying
- For the ranch dip:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon dried dill
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oil to 375°F (190°C).
- Slice the top off the onion and peel away the outer layers. Cut the onion into sections without cutting through the base.
- Mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
- Soak the onion in buttermilk.
- Coat the onion in the flour mixture.
- Dip the onion back into the buttermilk, then coat with breadcrumbs.
- Fry the onion in oil until golden brown, about 3-5 minutes.
- Mix all ranch dip ingredients in a bowl.
- Drain fried onions and serve immediately with ranch dip.
Notes
For a healthier option, try air frying the mini onions. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
