Description

Crispy mini bloomin’ onions with a tangy homemade buttermilk ranch dip, perfect for sharing at gatherings or enjoying as a snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Oil for frying
  • For the ranch dip:
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oil to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Slice the top off the onion and peel away the outer layers. Cut the onion into sections without cutting through the base.
  3. Mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  4. Soak the onion in buttermilk.
  5. Coat the onion in the flour mixture.
  6. Dip the onion back into the buttermilk, then coat with breadcrumbs.
  7. Fry the onion in oil until golden brown, about 3-5 minutes.
  8. Mix all ranch dip ingredients in a bowl.
  9. Drain fried onions and serve immediately with ranch dip.

Notes

For a healthier option, try air frying the mini onions. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
