Description

A warm and inviting cake with the sweetness of applesauce and earthy spices, creating a comforting dessert perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a medium mixing bowl.
  3. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl using an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in the applesauce and vanilla extract until well combined.
  6. Gradually add the dry mixture into the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  7. Pour the batter into your prepared baking pan, smoothing the top.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring it to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Notes

For an extra treat, serve plain, drizzled with a glaze, or with vanilla ice cream. Make ahead by preparing applesauce a day prior.
