Description

A delightful chicken dish with a crunchy pretzel crust and rich mustard-cheddar sauce that transforms an ordinary dinner into a culinary celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 cups pretzel crumbs
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooking oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for oven-baking the chicken after frying.
  2. Season the chicken breasts generously with salt and pepper, ensuring they’re evenly coated.
  3. Create a breading station with three shallow dishes: one with flour, another with beaten eggs, and the last with pretzel crumbs.
  4. Dip each chicken breast into the flour, shaking off any excess. Then, plunge it into the eggs, allowing the excess to drip off before transferring it to the pretzel crumbs, pressing firmly to coat.
  5. Heat oil in your skillet over medium heat. Once hot, carefully lay the coated chicken breasts in the skillet and fry for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden-brown.
  6. Transfer the chicken to a baking sheet and finish in the oven for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  7. While the chicken bakes, make the mustard-cheddar sauce by combining cheddar cheese, Dijon mustard, and sour cream in a saucepan over low heat. Stir until well combined.
  8. Serve the crispy chicken hot, drizzled with the mustard-cheddar sauce.

Notes

For a healthier option, try using an air fryer. You can prepare the chicken ahead of time and store it in the fridge for a few hours before baking.
