Description

A comforting Southern dish where tender green beans meet crispy bacon in a savory broth, perfect for inviting family around the table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound of green beans, trimmed
  • 4 slices of bacon, chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cups of chicken broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon of onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the chopped bacon and sauté until crispy, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  2. Remove the bacon from the pot with a slotted spoon, leaving the drippings.
  3. Add diced onion and minced garlic to the pot, sauté for about 3 to 4 minutes.
  4. Toss in the trimmed green beans, then pour in the chicken broth.
  5. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and red pepper flakes.
  6. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 45 minutes.
  7. Stir in the crispy bacon just before serving.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, omit bacon and use vegetable broth. Customize the dish with other vegetables or a splash of balsamic vinegar.
