- 1 pound of green beans, trimmed
- 4 slices of bacon, chopped
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cups of chicken broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon of onion powder
- 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Place a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the chopped bacon and sauté until crispy, about 5 to 7 minutes.
- Remove the bacon from the pot with a slotted spoon, leaving the drippings.
- Add diced onion and minced garlic to the pot, sauté for about 3 to 4 minutes.
- Toss in the trimmed green beans, then pour in the chicken broth.
- Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and red pepper flakes.
- Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 45 minutes.
- Stir in the crispy bacon just before serving.
Notes
For a vegetarian version, omit bacon and use vegetable broth. Customize the dish with other vegetables or a splash of balsamic vinegar.
