Description
A melt-in-your-mouth tender braised beef brisket, slow-cooked in a rich sauce of red wine, beef broth, and aromatic herbs.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 pounds beef brisket
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup red wine
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
- Heat olive oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
- Season the brisket with salt and pepper, then sear for about 4-5 minutes per side until browned.
- Remove the brisket and set aside.
- Add chopped onions and minced garlic to the pot, cooking until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in beef broth, red wine, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme; let simmer for about 5 minutes.
- Return the brisket to the pot, cover tightly, and transfer to the oven.
- Cook for about 4 hours, or until fork-tender.
- Let the brisket rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing.
Notes
For a lighter flavor, substitute chicken broth for beef broth. Use non-alcoholic grape juice instead of red wine for an alcohol-free option.
