Description

A melt-in-your-mouth tender braised beef brisket, slow-cooked in a rich sauce of red wine, beef broth, and aromatic herbs.


Ingredients

  • 4 pounds beef brisket
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  3. Season the brisket with salt and pepper, then sear for about 4-5 minutes per side until browned.
  4. Remove the brisket and set aside.
  5. Add chopped onions and minced garlic to the pot, cooking until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  6. Stir in beef broth, red wine, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme; let simmer for about 5 minutes.
  7. Return the brisket to the pot, cover tightly, and transfer to the oven.
  8. Cook for about 4 hours, or until fork-tender.
  9. Let the brisket rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For a lighter flavor, substitute chicken broth for beef broth. Use non-alcoholic grape juice instead of red wine for an alcohol-free option.
